OC/AC insurance
What to do after a car accident in Poland
Had an accident in Poland? The right steps decide whether you get a payout. Here's a clear order — from the scene to the insurance settlement.
At the scene
- Turn on hazard lights, set the warning triangle, help the injured if needed.
- If there are injuries, a dispute over fault or a suspicion of drink-driving — call the police (112).
- If no one is injured and the at-fault driver admits fault — a joint statement is enough, without the police.
What to collect
- the at-fault driver's details: name, address, OC policy number and insurer, plate numbers;
- photos of the scene and damage;
- witness contacts.
How to get a payout
The damage is covered by the at-fault driver's OC. Two routes:
- claim directly from the at-fault driver's insurer;
- via BLS (direct claims handling) — claim from your own insurer, who pays you and then settles with the at-fault insurer.
If you're at fault or the culprit is unknown — your own damage is covered only by AC (comprehensive), if you have it.
Important. Report the claim as soon as possible and don't repair the car before the insurer's inspection. On the OC vs AC difference — here.
