OC/AC insurance
OC/AC for Ukrainian plates in Poland
OC is mandatory in Poland for every car. But what if you have Ukrainian plates? We cover three options — the Green Card, a border policy and Polish OC — and whether your Ukrainian history counts.
While the car is on Ukrainian plates
- a Green Card — an international OC policy valid across the EU;
- a border policy (polisa graniczna) — Polish OC for a short period for a foreign-registered car.
Driving without valid OC is forbidden, and the fine is one of the highest (even a single day late is over 1500 zł).
After registration in Poland
Once the car gets Polish plates, you need full Polish OC. AC (comprehensive) is optional: it covers theft, damage and natural events.
Will my Ukrainian history/discounts count?
It depends on the insurer. Some companies recognise a no-claims record from Ukraine if you provide a certificate (zaświadczenie) from a Ukrainian insurer; others don't and start your history from scratch. So it's worth comparing several insurers.
What affects the OC price
- driver's age and experience;
- claims history;
- city of registration;
- engine power and car age;
- the insurer itself.
💡 The fastest way not to overpay is to compare OC/AC online and pick the cheapest.
