A car loan — what you need to know

You take a car loan for years but decide in an hour — so know three things: the APR, your creditworthiness and the car's real value.

APR, not the nominal rate

The nominal rate is only part of the cost. The APR (RRSO) also covers the fee and insurance — and offers are compared only by APR. Two offers with the same „percent” can differ by thousands of zloty. Compute the instalment in our loan calculator, and a full APR comparison in Finumero's calculators.

What the bank requires

Typically: documented income (employment or an established business), a BIK history and an acceptable level of existing liabilities. Foreigners usually also need a residence card (often with a minimum validity) and a Polish account. A short history in Poland makes a loan harder — then leasing is often the easier route.

A car loan or a cash loan?

A dedicated car loan (secured on the vehicle) usually has a lower APR, but the car is collateral. A cash loan costs more but has no collateral or vehicle paperwork. For older cars banks often offer only the cash loan.

FAQ

Which matters more: the rate or the APR?
The APR — it includes the fee and insurance, not just interest. Compare offers only by APR at the same term and amount.

Can a foreigner get a car loan in Poland?
Yes, but banks usually require a residence card, documented income in Poland and a BIK history. With a short history, leasing is easier to obtain than a loan.
