How long can you drive on Ukrainian plates in Poland

This is the most common question among Ukrainians with a car in Poland. Short answer: up to 6 months (180 days within a year) — after that the car must be registered in Poland or taken out.

The basic rule: 180 days

A car on foreign (Ukrainian) plates may stay in Poland up to 180 days within a year. During that time you drive legally — provided you hold valid OC (usually a Green Card).

When registration becomes mandatory

you stay in Poland more than 180 days a year;
you hold a residence card or other resident status;
you actually live in Poland and use the car regularly.

Once you become a resident, you usually have 30 days to register.

Important. UKR status helps, but it doesn't waive the 180-day rule forever. Planning to stay long-term — legalise the car.

Fines and risks

a fine usually 500–2000 zł;
possible seizure of the vehicle document, sometimes towing;
insurance problems in an accident.

Separately: OC is always mandatory — driving without a policy is a separate, much higher fine.
